Aunt’s Birthday Dinner

It was my one of my aunt’s birthday dinner back in November. I finally took the time to transfer the photos onto my hard drive so I can post them.

For birthdays in my family, it’s either we go to a restaurant or stay at home and have a feast. For my aunt’s birthday, we stayed at home and ordered take-out. It’s always a mixture of different Asian dishes – mainly Chinese, Vietnamese and Japanese. Enough jibber jabber, let’s get on to the food!

Fried wontons.

Spring rolls. (A staple order for every big occasion we have.)

Asian biscuits. (I don't remember exactly what they are).

Duck. (My favourite!)

Siu yuk aka roasted pig belly. (I never like to eat this. It always gives me a sore throat.)

Yi mein. (There's a plastic cover on it, if you're wondering what that clear thing is.)

Rice. (What's an Asian feast without rice? Haha.)

I don't remember what this is but one of my aunt's made it. I think it has red bean in it. I know it's sort of sticky.

Aunt's birthday cakes. The left is a mango mousse cake and the right is your typical Asian cake (normal soft cake with icing and fruit).

My plate of cake. I'm pretty sure I had seconds, or even thirds, as usual.

In 2015, I went to Sugar Marmalade went it first opened in Mississauga. I wasn't impressed with it. Four years later, my opinion hasn't changed at my second visit. Check out my quick review in my IG Stories.

It's the long weekend ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆโ€”Let's par-tea! ๐ŸŽ‰ โ €
Earlier this week I finally got to try @thealley.ca in Toronto. Since it was my first visit, I decided to order the Deerioca. This drink is made with brown sugar instead of white. Make sure you mix it (Swipe โฉ) before drinking it, otherwise the brown sugar will only settle at the bottom. You also have the option of choosing regular milk or soy milk.
โ €
It wasn't bad but the brown sugar didn't give me the sweetness I'm used to. It did taste familiar to a non-bubble tea drink. But I wouldn't mind going back to try a different drink to compare to other bubble tea places.

If you have any recommendations, leave it in the comments :)

Yolks on you if you don't order the Spaghetti Carbonara from @scaddabush!
โ €
My go-to order is usually the Roasted Fennel & Sausage Fettuccine but yesterday I decided to try something different. I went for the Spaghetti Carbonara and it was delish! ๐Ÿ˜‹
โ €
It was creamy and full of flavour. I also don't like bacon (Don't @ me!) but thus was bearable for me. It was a bit too oily near the bottom of the dish, so make sure you mix it well!
โ €
And if you're sharing this dish, go for the social size optionโ€”it's cheaper when splitting the bill! ๐Ÿ˜‰
