Food Baby T-Shirt

You must be wondering, “What is a ‘Food Baby’?” Well, let me tell you.

Ever eaten so much that your stomach expands and it looks like you’re pregnant? Well, congratulations! You just created a Food Baby! With my big appetite and petite frame, I get Food Babies on a daily basis. I’ll admit- I’ve been guilty (and still am) of sucking in my stomach trying to hide my Food Baby. It’s not because I don’t want people to think that I’m pregnant but it mostly has to do with body image.

Thanks to the media, it’s frowned upon in today’s society if you don’t have abs or a flat stomach. Especially with the vast social media channels, cyber bullying is on the rise more than ever and body image is one of the issues people deal with. But let’s get real here- not everyone has abs or a flat stomach, and not everyone has the time to workout.

There are many factors- genetics and socioeconomics- that may limit one’s need to be thin or have rock-hard abs. And that’s the beauty of the human race- we all come in different shapes and sizes.

However, this isn’t why or how I came up with my “Food Baby” T-shirt. To be honest, the shirt idea started as an inside joke with my family but I realized that it could evolve into something greater.

When I first walked around my neighbourhood with my “Food Baby” shirt, I did feel a little self conscious wearing it. Were people going to think I was actually pregnant? Will they understand what a “Food Baby” is? Will they think I’m fat because of this shirt? And it’s that last question that really nailed it for me. I’m wearing a T-shirt that explicitly says “Food Baby” on my stomach. Why should I care if someone thinks I’m fat or if I have belly? That’s the whole point of the shirt- TO NOT CARE.

And that’s when it hit me. This shirt can be a statement towards the media’s ridiculous ideal body image. Like I said, humans come in many different shapes and sizes, and there are many factors as to why. As long as you’re healthy, that’s all that matters. And if you have a Food Baby, celebrate it!

So, now for my shameless self-plug. If you’re interested in buying a “Food Baby” T-shirt, they’re available at my design shop- http://bit.ly/2rKRcVs.
