Momofuku Milk Bar Eats
Happy National Cookie Day! Since February, I’ve been trying some of the products in Momofuku Milk Bar. Most are actually cookies, so this is an appropriate blog post!
If you live in New York, Toronto, DC, or Sydney, you’ve probably heard of Momofuku. Founded by famous chef David Chang, Momofuku is a group of Asian style restaurants with an upscale, modern feel. The most famous restaurant in the Momofuku group is Noodle Bar. However, Milk Bar is Momofuku’s dessert shop, filled with delicious baked treats.
I will be honest. I have kept these Milk Bar treats since February. I know that sounds disgusting, but they’re sealed and have been kept in the environment they should be in. As far as my health goes, so far I have had no ill-fated symptoms.
I’ll begin with one of the most famous treats: Crack Pie.
This really is Crack Pie. It is one of the best tasting pies ever. It is sweet, like caramel sweet. It also does taste like caramel. And the crust! If you love the crusts of cheesecakes, you will love the crust of this pie just as much! The inside is soft and a bit chewy.
Honestly, you will want more of this pie after one bite. It truly lives up to its name.
First up is the Fruity-Pebble-Marshmallow Cookie.
So, apparently my notes for this cookie have disappeared. I do remember it being sweet and pretty much tasting like Froot Loops in a cookie form. I mean, it does have “Fruity-Pebbles” in its name.
As you can see, it’s a colourful cookie. I think it’s the perfect cookie for this month – it looks quite festive. Just serve it with something rich like milk to tone down the sweetness.
The next cookie is the Corn Cookie. I know, it sounds strange but it had no hint of corn at all. When you cook corn, it’s sweet and this cookie was sweet.
It smelled and tasted like a sugar cookie. I wish I could say more about this cookie but it really just tasted like a sugar cookie.
Out of all the cookies I bought, it was more yellow in comparison, which makes sense since corn is yellow. It wasn’t bad but it was nothing special. If you’re curious how a corn cookie tastes like, it wouldn’t hurt to try it.
As a Canadian, anything maple flavoured grabs my attention. This Maple-Coconut-Pecan Cookie had to be tried.
When I opened the package and took the cookie out, there was a strong maple pecan smell. So if you’re a pecan fan, you will love this cookie.
It was quite nutty and chewy. The chewiness is definitely from the pecan. It was almost like I was eating an oatmeal cookie. I don’t remember how sweet it was, but I don’t think it was as sweet as the Corn cookie.
I do wish it had more maple taste than maple smell. I think that was the disappointing part of this cookie. The pecans really took over in this cookie. It was a little too nutty for my liking, so I don’t think I’d repurchase this one.
The last cookie for today is “The Ritz” Cookie. And yes, it does contain Ritz crackers (if you can read it in the ingredients list on the package).
I actually ate this cookie today (the others were months ago) so it was a bit stale. It wasn’t ridiculously hard, but I did place it in the microwave for a bit to soften it.
The cookie does have the Ritz cracker appearance to it. It’s got the grainy texture and yellow “Ritz cracker” tint to it.
Like the Corn cookie, this pretty much tasted like shortbread. It was richly sweet. I originally planned to eat another cookie after this one, but its sweetness was more than I expected. For those who aren’t big on sweets, I would suggest sharing this cookie. I couldn’t get any hint of the Ritz crackers though. I did get a buttery taste to it. I would say that’s partly from heating it up. I like how this cookie looks but for its taste, it’s nothing special.
So far, the Crack Pie is my favourite Milk Bar treat. However, I will say that even after ten months, these cookies are still tasty. They’re probably not as soft and chewy as how they should be, but that’s something that a microwave can fix. A Crack Pie on the other hand will harden after months being the fridge. So when you buy that, try to eat it ASAP.
I do have three more cookies to try. I was going to try them all tonight but since “The Ritz” Cookie was sweeter than I expected, I had to stop. So, stay tuned for continued post! 🙂
