Spin Dessert Cafe & Bistro
After a trip to Playdium one night, I went out with my family for a late night bite at Spin Dessert Cafe & Bistro (Spin). I had heard good reviews about this place from friends and I really wanted to try it out.
The place closed at 2 AM and we arrived around 1 AM. It actually took us a while to be seated when the place wasn’t even packed or halfway packed. But, we waited patiently until a server brought us to a table.
I knew I wanted something sweet, so I ordered the Under the Boardwalk cheesecake for us to share. This is a “New York style cheesecake topped with blueberries and drizzled with blueberry sauce.” I quite liked this cheesecake. It was creamy, chewy, and the blueberry sauce was the perfect touch. I expected it to have a bit of a tang, like strawberry and raspberry sauce, but it was quite sweet. It was light sweet taste, so it didn’t overly sweet the cake, and complemented well with the cheesecake.
For some reason, I was craving a milkshake as well that night. After much consideration, I chose the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough milkshake. It took me a while to choose because Spin uses their ice cream flavours to make the milkshakes. When the milkshake arrived, it came topped with a generous amount of whipped cream (My favourite!). Even though I ordered Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, it tasted like white chocolate. It was much sweeter than the cheesecake but I loved it anyway. I do wish there was more of a cookie dough taste – there was barely any hint of it!
My sister and cousins chose the Butter Chicken Pizza to share. Before it arrived, we could smell that it was on its way. The pizza was nicely thin and quite cheesy. It was decent for a dessert cafe place, but they really needed to add more butter chicken sauce to the pizza. It would have made the pizza go from a 6 to an 8 easily.
I was pleased with the dessert items but I don’t think I’d order the Butter Chicken Pizza. It was okay but I prefer the one at Panago much more. Would I return to Spin? Yes. I do like their dessert menu more than Caffe Demetre, which used to be my go-to place for dessert in the Mississauga/Oakville area. I think it’s safe to say that Spin might overtake its title. But overall, Spin is a nice little dessert cafe place that’s great for a meetup with friends and family.
