Starbucks’ Unicorn Frappucino
If you’re a Starbucks drinker, I’m sure you’ve heard all the buzz about their new, colourful drink.
The Unicorn Frappucino Blended Crème is a limited-time frappucino containing mango syrup, sour powders, and topped with pink sprinkled whip cream. It’s meant to be colour-changing (pink to purple) and taste-changing (sweet to tart) once mixed.
I ordered a venti size to share with my family, even though I knew I’d be drinking about 98% of it. As expected, it had the pink sprinkled whip cream, the blue drizzle, and the pink hue. I mixed the drink to see the colour change but nothing was happenin
g. On my first sip, the drink was sweet. It was similar to bubble gum. But once the drink settled (after mixing), the taste started to change. It became tart. The flavour continued to change the longer the drink settled. It became extremely tart, on the verge of being sour, which explains the addition of the sour powders.
I did find a hint of cherry, which now I can understand why some people said it tasted like medicine. Also, the sugar content is extremely high. If you ordered a venti like I did, it’s about 76g of sugar! Insane!
I’ll admit – I only wanted the drink to see what the hype was and to Instagram it. It is a pretty drink and it seemed quick to make, based on the barista I had. It wasn’t the greatest drink but it wasn’t the worst. The only part I liked was the whip cream with pink sugar sprinkled on top. When that part mixed in with the rest of the drink, that’s when it was tolerable. Am I disappointed that it didn’t taste as good as it looked? No, I expected it to be all hype.
In conclusion: Save your money and go with your regular order. This is a drink you won’t remember a week from now.
